The FIGO-SOGOC training programme in comprehensive abortion care reached a major symbolic milestone in 2024: over 300 practitioners — OB-GYNs, general practitioners and midwives — have been trained across five regions of Cameroon.
This programme, part of the historic partnership between SOGOC and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), aims to improve the quality and safety of care for unintended pregnancies and post-abortion complications, in strict compliance with the national legal framework.
The modules cover manual vacuum aspiration (MVA), medical management, post-abortion contraception, empathetic communication with patients, and the prevention and recognition of complications.
For 2025-2026, SOGOC plans to extend the programme to the five remaining regions, with an ambitious goal of 500 practitioners trained.
