On World Cancer Day, SOGOC launches its national cervical cancer screening programme, in partnership with MINSANTE, WHO, UNFPA and several reference hospitals.
Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in Cameroon, yet it is largely preventable through HPV vaccination and early screening.
The programme will offer free screening (VIA/VILI and Pap smear) across the 10 regions of the country, train more than 500 practitioners and midwives, advocate for widespread HPV vaccination of young girls, and run nationwide awareness campaigns.
The programme will be rolled out over three years, with semi-annual regional evaluations.
